The West Elk Lady Patriots competed at the highly competitive KSHSAA Girls 3-2-1A East Regional tournament, with wrestlers battling tough brackets and gaining valuable postseason experience.
Patriot freshman Haylee Knight went 1-2 at the tournament, losing during the “blood round.” In wrestling, the “blood round” is the match that determines who advances to state and who is eliminated just one win short of earning a medal. West Elk sophomore Maggie Humphrey went 0-2 at the tournament.
Following are the results:
135: Maggie Humphrey (5-17) lost by fall to Mya Crabtree (Pomona-West Franklin) 38-1 (Fall 0:51); and lost by fall to Trinity Shamblin (Longton-Elk Valley) 3-4 (Fall 0:12).
170: Haylee Knight (1012) lost by fall to Macey Dardenne (Galena) 19-12 (Fall 1:39); won by fall over Emersynn Allen (Neodesha) 1-4 (Fall 2:08); and lost by fall to Savannah Marvin (Leon Bluestem) 12-20 (Fall 0:50).
The Patriot boys will compete at 3-1A Regionals in Eureka this Saturday, Feb. 21.
