The Madison High School basketball teams had a great week of basketball last week, sweeping both Uniontown and Southern Coffey County (SCC).
Madison hosted Uniontown on Tuesday, Feb. 10, claiming wins in both the boys and girls varsity contests.
The Madison girls set the tone early and never looked back in a dominant 54-19 victory over Uniontown.
Madison jumped out to a 17-4 lead after one quarter and extended it to 28-11 by halftime. The Bulldogs continued to apply pressure in the third, stretching the lead to 4818 before finishing off the win in the fourth, 54-19. Scoring for the Lady Bulldogs were Sadie Albert 26, Kam White 12, Caylin Luthi 6, Bayleigh Benjamin and Morgan Weakley each with four and Molly Dannels 2.
The Madison boys used a strong first half and steady scoring down the stretch to secure a 65-59 win over Uniontown. The Bulldogs led 17-13 after the first quarter and extended the advantage to 33-26 at halftime. Uniontown battled back in the third period, trimming the margin to 53-49 heading into the final frame, but Madison did enough in the fourth quarter to seal the six-point victory. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Octavian Dean 23, Javier Alba-Mendez 13, Cooper Luthi 12, Brayden Grimmett 11 and Lane Smith 6.
Against SCC
Madison traveled to Le-Roy on Friday, Feb. 13 to take on the Titans of SCC.
The Lady Bulldogs dominated over SCC, only allowing 8 points, while recording 45 points of their own. Madison only allowed a single point in the 1st, 2nd and quarter quarters and lead the Titans, 40-3 going into the final stanza. Both teams scored 5 points in the final quarter, with the Bulldogs winning 45-8. Scoring for Madison were Molly Dannels 9, Jenna Thomsen and Kam White each with 7, Rylee Darbro 6, Caylin Luthi 5, Sadie Albert 3 and Molly Hurlburt, Bayleigh Benjamin and Rylie Watts all with 2.
Madison’s boys dominated over the Titans, winning the contest 6811. The Bulldogs claimed an early 30-5 lead after 1 and continued the dominate in the second, to lead 51-7 at halftime. With one quarer remaining, the Bulldogs lead 63-7. Madison outscored the Titans 5-4 in the final quarter to win the game 68-11. Scoring for the Bulldogs were Octavian Dean 18, Cooper Luthi 13, Colter Luthi 11, Cory Yowell 10, Brayden Grimmentt 7, Javier Alba Mendez 5 and Jaxson Dauer 2.
