Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office Welcomed New K9, Kraken

Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office Welcomed New K9, Kraken

The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office announced last week on social media the newest member as K9 Kraken joined the force.

On January 23, Sergent Mike Cordell and K9 Kraken officially became a certified K9 team after successfully completing three weeks of intensive K9 certification training. Kraken, a Belgian Malinois, is trained and certified in narcotics detection, apprehension, tracking and trailing, article searches, and obedience. The team is now fully prepared to assist deputies in a wide range of law enforcement operations across Greenwood County.

The K9 program would not be possible without strong community support. Appreci ation was extended to Matt Wilson of Eureka and Larry and Sherry DeWitt of Madison for their generous donations to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office K9 Fund. The announcement also marks the end of an era for another beloved K9. K9 Kilo officially retired after approximately seven years of service on the road.
