Howard City Council

The Howard City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the Jan. 19 meeting, which were approved during their most recent meeting

The Howard City Council held their regular meeting on Jan. 19 at 7 :30 p.m. The minutes of the Jan. 5 meeting were approved.

The Oath of Office was administered to Mayor Brad Baumgartel and to council members Nick Miller and Susan Galvan.

The council approved bills totaling $15,869.28.

After discussion, the following department representatives were approved: Mayor Baumgartel, Administration; Councilman Gary Harrod, Water & Streets; Councilman Shilo Crupper, Parks & Pool; Councilman Derek Cookson, Gas & Sewer; Councilman Galvan, Buildings & Lake and Councilman Nick Miller, Police & Fire. Councilman Harrod was also appointed to represent the city as a voting member for the PWWSD#23 Board.

Harrod was elected as Council President. Items approved were: to advertise for a part-time weekend utility worker with wage based on training and experience starting at $16/ hr; to waive the Cox Building rental fee for the Quilts of Valor reception and presentation; the 2025 Audit Engagement; 2027 Budget Engagement; to purchase lumber and sealer as needed to repair the boat dock; to move forward with pursuing a grant for parks and playground improvements working with SCKEDD and to assign City Clerk Joanna Hunter as voting delegate and Clay Hunter as alternate at the KRWA Annual Meeting.

In Other discussion, code compliance regarding properties and junk vehicles in town will continue to be a focus.

The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the Howard City Council will be held on Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in observance of the Presidents Day holiday.
