Boys Basketball Claimed Win Over Chase County; Fell To Olpe/Neodesha

The Eureka High School boys played Olpe Monday night in Olpe. The Tornadoes lost this game 27-71.

As the score indicates, this was not a good game for the Tornadoes. The Tornadoes shot 27% from the field, and even worse from the foul line, dooming any chance they may have had versus the Eagles. Conversely, the Eagles came out hot, shooting 59% from the field, including 42% from beyond the arc. A 24-5 first quarter in favor of the Eagles staggered the Tornadoes and they were never able to recover. The first half ended with the Tornadoes down by 29, and, although they played better defense in the 2nd half, they continued their shooting woes throughout the half.

Senior Cole Ptacek had 11 points, leading the team. Senior J.P. Guillaume and junior Tyson Coon scored 6 each. Sophomore Brody Mitchell added 4.

The Tornadoes then played the Chase County Bullpups Tuesday night at home. This may have been the best game of the season for the Tornadoes, as they won 44-36. They played so much better than they had the night before, it was hard to tell they were the same team. They led the game throughout, with the exception of the first three minutes, taking an 8-point lead into half. They increased the lead to 13 points after three quarters. The Bullpups mounted a comeback in the 4th, cutting the Tornadoes’ lead to 5 after hitting some shots and some sloppy play by the Tornadoes. However, the local boys responded with a run of their own, winning the game by 8.

Junior Tyson Coon scored 14 points for the Tornadoes. Senior Cole Ptacek had 13 and sophomore Brody Mitchell had 9. Junior Easton Mead had 5 and senior J.P. Guillaume added 3.

Once again they failed to adjust to playing on the road, falling to a good Bluestreaks team 69-24. As was the case at Olpe, the Tornadoes were outscored 25-4 in the first quarter, due to poor shooting and defense by Eureka. They adjusted somewhat in the 2nd quarter, but Neodesha poured it on throughout the 2nd half and the Tornadoes lost in a blowout, 24-69.

Senior Nate Clark led the Tornadoes with 6 points. Seniors Tim Aguilar and Cole Ptacek both scored 5. Junior Easton Meade had 3, junior Tyson Coon and sophomore Brody Mitchell had 2 each. Freshman Eli Mason dropped a free throw to complete the Tornadoes’ scoring.
