A Eureka family of three was left without a home and most of their belongings after a fire erupted late Wednesday, Jan. 28 at their residence at 1316 N. Main St. in Eureka.
The Eureka Fire Department (EFD) was dispatched to the blaze at 8:13 p.m. and arrived to find the home engulfed in flames. According to EFD Chief Luke Westerman, it was determined upon arrival that all occupants were safely out of the house.
Fire crews attacked the attic fire from inside the structure and were able to bring it under control, limiting damage to the main living areas. However, the living portion of the home sustained smoke and water damage. Crews remained on scene for an extended period conducting an overhaul of the attic. Westerman noted the structure had been added onto several times, creating areas where hot spots could smolder and potentially rekindle.
No injuries were reported, and fire crews cleared the scene at 11:47 p.m.
Donations for the family are being collected at The Eureka Herald, 822 E. River St., P.O. Box 590, Eureka, KS 67045. Sonic Drive-In in Eureka will also serve as a drop-off location. Monetary donations may be made payable to Tylor Michael.
Listed owners of the home are William Michael and Tammy Ferguson.
