Commissioners Approved Sound System Upgrade; Discussed Routine Business

The Greenwood County Commission addressed routine weekly business during its Feb. 2 meeting, approving multiple projects, filled a zoning committee vacancy and selecting an upgrade to the commission meeting room’s sound system, while also holding several executive sessions.

The commission approved two concrete jobs during the Road and Bridge report, both in the northern part of the county. Both bids, through Ramsey Concrete, were approved and expected to be completed this week. The bids were for Ivanpah Crossing on 220th Street, east of P Road ($16,400) and Allison Crossing on B Road, south of 195th Street ($49,100).

The commission approved appointing Diltz Lindamood to the zoning committee. He will be filling the vacancy after the resignation of Dale Kirkham.

In old business, Maintenance Supervisor Greg Rawlings shared four different options to upgrade the sound system in the meeting room. Two bids for new equipment were just over $4,200; however, Rawlings also presented bids for an off-brand for $1,364 and two bids for used equipment on eBay. The commission approved the purchase of Option 1 through eBay at a rate of $1,577.02.

Rawlings also shared that the State Fire Marshall is now required to complete elevator inspections and Shindler Elevator will no longer be able to provide this service. It was recommended that the county utilize Maverick Elevator as the inspector. The charge for the threeyear inspection is expected to be approximately $400.

Commissioners held three executive sessions, with no decisions being made following any of the sessions. The first was for 15 minutes for legal matters with County Counselor Paul Dean, Road and Bridge Supervisor Allen Greenwood and Road and Bridge Administrative Assistant Kassie Lazar. The second was for five minutes for personnel, complaint with Dean and EMS Director Brian Mongeau. The last session was for 10 minutes for personnel (no justification was provided) with Dean.

County Health Director Jayme Lewis shared with the commission that the health department will be closed this Thursday, Feb. 5 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., while staff attends a Regional Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Exercise in Emporia.
