Toronto News

The snow has really stuck around, hasn’t it? I wonder when was the last time snow stayed with us this long? Seems like we get snow, it’s cold a couple of days then warms up enough for it to melt. This cold weather (below freezing, that is) we just had lasted longer than any we’ve had in a long while.

We’ve definitely had enough cold weather. I’m ready for Spring. I don’t care what Punxsutawney Phil says today Spring is just six weeks away!

What is a “toxophilite?” We offer our sympathy to all who lost loved ones this past week. May they rest in peace.

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and Rehab centers.

There was a great turnout for the Toronto United Methodist Church’s annual Kansas Day Soup and Chili Supper. I wasn’t able to make it; this extreme cold we’ve been having has my assorted types of arthritis all riled up. My friend, Angie Sherman, helped with serving and took some pictures for me.

It was great to see such a good turnout. The soup is always good, as well as the desserts, and the storytelling of Jeff Davidson is al-

ways great to hear. He tells different stories each time he comes to town. I’m sorry I missed it.

Answer: A toxophilite is a person who loves or practic-es archery, a term derived from the Greek words toxon (bow) and philos (loving). In ancient and classical usage, it specifically referred to an archer or someone devot-ed to the bow and arrow. Among Olympic events, archery is the discipline most directly associated with this skill, involving precision shooting with a bow at fixed targets.

The weather this week is supposed to be much warmer than last week. Let’s hope so. Supposed to be in the 40’s and above. That’s great.
