The Eureka Recreation Commission met on Wednesday, Jan. 28 for a routine monthly meeting. Board members Isaac Boone, Leonard Moore, Jamie Stephens and Jordan Ring were present, along with Treasurer Alan Johnson and Director Derek Larcom. Board member Brandon Hall was absent. Several recreation coaches attended as guests.
During the meeting, the board approved the financial report after reviewing current budget figures.
A significant portion of the discussion again focused on coaching and player development. Boone presented ideas for enhanced coaching practices and the creation of a skills camp designed to improve foundational abilities. Board members also addressed concerns about the lack of consistent practices throughout the year.
To address these concerns, a proposed seasonal structure was discussed that would include a skills camp, a regular season, and an All-Star Fall season. Larcom announced that Brady Roberts will be added this summer to assist with coaching and operations at an hourly rate. He also reported that the basketball program is progressing well and that indoor soccer is set to begin soon. League structure and competitiveness were also key topics.
Several rule updates were also confirmed. The program will follow USSSA rules, games will be 90 minutes in length, and machine pitch will no longer be used. The Burlington League website will serve as the official reference for all league rules and regulations.
The board plans to continue discussion at their February meeting.
The ERC meets monthly on the last Wednesday of the month.
