Madison Elementary School held its annual school-wide spelling bee last week and after six rounds of competition, named Laikyn Henke, a sixth grader, as the Spelling Bee Champion after she correctly spelled “perfume.”
Ellie Preeo, a fifth grader, finished as the runner-up.
Henke and Preeo, along with Logan Fankhauser, Elaina Castaneda, Brynn Hamilton, Hadley Fox, Emily Thompson and Stockton Seaton will represent Madison/ Virgil USD 386 at the Greenwood County Spelling bee next week.
The county spelling bee is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. and will be held at Marshall Elementary School in Eureka.
Hamilton USD 390 was slated to hold their district bee on Monday of this week, but due to weather the bee was postponed.
