Members of the West Elk Patriot wrestling team traveled to Wellsville on Thursday, Jan. 15 for the annual Aaron Patton Memorial tournament. Although the Patriots weren’t able to make the podium, they did tally wins for the day.
Following are the individual match wins for Patriot wrestlers: Boys
113: Welch Murphy (716) received a bye; lost by fall to Chance Boyd (Kansas City-Turner HS) 2-2 (Fall 0:57); received a bye; won by fall over Rehan Zhid (SM East) 7-10 (Fall 0:42); and lost by fall to Reilly Schultz (Gardner Edgerton) 5-3 (Fall 1:35).
165: Corbin Arbuckle (4-14) lost by fall to Gage Peine (Central Heights) 15-0 (Fall 0:25); won by medical forfeit over Hunter Brown (Gardner Edgerton) 3-11; and lost by fall to Memphis Childers (Osawatomie) 3-3 (Fall 0:30).
190: Landon Wunderlich (11-11) received a bye; won by fall over Billy Keane (SM East) 17-14 (Fall 5:55); lost an 11-18 decision to Maddox Doherty (Wellsville) 10-5; and lost by fall to Wade Deters (Onaga) 17-6 (Fall 2:09).
285: Edward Metcalf (11-13) received a bye; lost by fall to Ashton Hinds (Spring Hill HS) 9-1 (Fall 2:40); and lost by fall to Hunter Emann (Gardner Edgerton) 4-1 (Fall 0:58).
Girls
135: Maggie Humphrey (3-13) lost by fall to Mya Crabtree (West Franklin) 18-0 (Fall 1:34); and lost by fall to Avery Coyer (Anderson County) 5-4 (Fall 1:36).
170: Haylee Knight (68) received a bye; lost by fall to Paige Ferrara (Burlington) 24-4 (Fall 0:27); received a bye; won by fall over Miranda Covell (Prairie View ) 4-5 (Fall 2:47); and lost by fall to Ellianna Lisher (Baldwin) 17-8 (Fall 1:35).
