Returning Home

Returning Home

Memories of days long past started flooding my brain as I returned home to Greenwood County as a current resident for the first time since 2008. Familiar pasture names came back to my mind as I drove past them, many of which hadn’t changed since before I was born.

Some of those memories included horse wrecks, shipping summer grass cattle, and conversations with mentors both past and present. Most of these conversations occurred on a bench seat of a vintage feed truck, or on horseback.

I kept driving to refamiliarize myself with the county that shaped who I am today, and the longer I drove the more excited I became about being home. My name is Clinton Laflin, and I am honored to serve as your new KSU Agriculture Extension Agent for Greenwood County.

I grew up on my family’s commercial cow-calf ranching operation, Double Arrow C Ranch near Eureka, and am a 2008 graduate of Eureka High School. I also have a long heritage in the registered Angus business being a 5th generation Angus breeder on my dad’s side of the family.

I hold a B.S. degree in Animal Science and a Masters Degree in International Agriculture from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla.

In coming back home to Greenwood County I bring 11 years of professional experience in Extension work across Kansas and Oklahoma, and relevant industry experience. In addition, to working in Extension I own and operate C Bar L Cattle Company focused on producing registered Angus cattle for the commercial producer and seedstock sector.

I enjoy working with local producers on livestock related questions and issues that arise in their agricultural operations. My areas of specialty include cattle management, range management, and livestock selection.

In my free time you will find me attending cattle sales, judging livestock shows and traveling. I have judged local, state and national level cattle shows in 7 U.S. states, Canada and Mexico, and enjoy working with youth on their livestock

projects.

I look forward to working with you, and the residents of Greenwood County! Stop by and see us at the Extension office in the Greenwood County Courthouse. I can be reached via phone at 620-583-7455, or by email at [email protected].
