Eureka Boys Fell To Mustangs Of Flinthills

The Eureka High School boys ended the 2025 portion of their schedule with a 48-54 loss to the Flinthills Mustangs. This loss, which dropped their record to 2-4 for the season, was as hardfought as every one of their previous games.

The Tornadoes opened the game by allowing the Mustangs to score 20 points in the opening quarter and 15 more in the second quarter. The Tornadoes only managed 11 points each quarter as they were unable to find the basket despite working to get some good looks. They carried this 13 point deficit into the second half, but immediately began to whittle it down.

Playingverytoughdefense, they allowed only 19 second half points and finally found their rhythm on offense, outscoring the Mustangs by 7 during the half. They ultimately fell short, however, as the deficit was just too big to overcome. Overall, the Tornadoes hit less than 35% from the field but were able to remain competitive because they committed a season low 14 turnovers. They also managed a whopping 38 rebounds, of which 18 were on the offensive end. The Tornadoes played relatively well and continue to get better each game.

Senior Cole Ptacek and sophomore Brody Mitchell led the Tornadoes with 16 points each. Junior Tyson Coon scored 9, Juniors Kotah Davis and Cooper Roberson had 3 each and senior Nate Clark added a free throw to complete the scoring.

The Tornadoes will return to action Friday, Jan. 9 at Fredonia.
