Lady Tornadoes Open League Play With Win Over Humboldt

In the first league game of the season, the Eureka Lady Tornadoes defeated the Humboldt Cubs 64-39 on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

The contest was tightly contested early, with Humboldt scoring first before Eureka answered when Elle Coulter knocked down a corner three to get the Lady Tornadoes on the board. The opening quarter went back and forth, with the Cubs holding the lead for much of the period until Sydney Lindamood connected from beyond the arc to give Eureka the advantage for good.

Eureka held a slim 1412 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Turnovers slowed the Lady Tornadoes in the second quarter, but timely three-pointers from Britta Mongeau, Arabella Shepherd, and Lindamood allowed Eureka to maintain control. Strong defensive play held Humboldt to just five points in the quarter, and Eureka took a 25-17 lead into halftime.

The third quarter again saw both teams trading baskets, but Coulter caught fire, scoring 10 points in the period to help Eureka extend its lead to 40–31 heading into the fourth.

Eureka’s defense took over in the final stanza, wearing down the Cubs and putting the game out of reach. The Lady Tornadoes outscored Humboldt 24-8 in the fourth quarter to secure the 64-39 victory.

Coulter led Eureka with 17 points, followed by Lindamood with 13 and Mongeau with 11. Shepherd added 9 points, Hannah Perrier scored 8, Alaina Westerman had 4 and Milly Koop and Lydia Mason each chipped in one point. Mongeau recorded a team-high 6 assists, while Lindamood pulled down a team-high nine rebounds.
