Metcalf Placed Second At Hesston Invitational

West Elk’s Edward Metcalf claimed a second place finish at the Hesston Invitational last Saturday, Dec. 13, going 3-2 at the annual event. Lady Patriot freshman Haylee Knight placed third. Also representing the Patriots were Maggie Humphrey, Welch Murphy, Corbin Arbuckle and Landon Wunderlich.

Following are the results for West Elk Patriots participants: Hesston Girls Invitational 135 Girls: Maggie Humphrey (3-5) placed 8th. She lost a 6-21 tech fall to Julia Nowicka (Hesston) 2-6; won by fall over Jade Bull (Garden Plain) 0-5 (Fall 1:07); lost by fall to Emma Arnold (Cheney) 5-6 (Fall 0:36); lost by fall to Emma Vogel (Maize) 9-1 (Fall 0:36); and lost a 3-20 tech fall to Indigo Nichols (Kingman) 2-3.

170 Girls: Haylee Knight (3-4) placed 3rd. She won by fall over Kahlan Kitson (Maize) 2-8 (Fall 0:24); lost by fall to Samantha Strausz (Hesston) 7-0 (Fall 0:42); won a 17-2 tech fall over Ashlee Ledford (Halstead) 2-3; won by forfeit over Brooklyn Carillo (Burden- Central) 3-6; and lost by fall to Trynity Pope (Stafford) 5-3 (Fall 2:56).

Hesston Boys Invitational 113 Boys: Welch Murphy (3-9) placed 6th. He lost by fall to Jayce Feril (Stafford) 5-3 (Fall 0:28); lost by fall to Leo Collette (Republic County) 8-1 (Fall 1:40); lost a 2-17 tech fall to Greysen Lee (Lyons) 3-2; won by forfeit over Van Hostetler (Chaparral) 4-6; and lost by fall to Greysen Lee (Lyons) 3-2 (Fall 0:37).

165 Boys: Corbin Arbuckle (2-7) placed 11th. He lost by fall to Treygan Miesse (Marion) 3-2 (Fall 0:49); lost a 4-19 tech fall to Kristopher Monroe (Nickerson) 8-0; won by fall over Ashton Bennison (Sylvan Unified) 0-6 (Fall 0:47); lost by fall to Fernando Lara (Lyons) 2-3 (Fall 2:42); and won by fall over Isaiah Mason-Oswald (Halstead) 0-4 (Fall 1:58).

190 Boys: Landon Wunderlich (7-5) placed 7th. He lost by fall to Riley Spurlock (Nickerson) 2-2 (Fall 4:44); received a bye; lost by fall to Dylan Brozek (Stafford) 3-1 (Fall 3:26); lost a 0-15 tech fall to Nick Kendall (Republic County) 7-2; and won by fall over Christian Iniguez (Oxford) 1-4 (Fall 1:49).

285 Boys: Edward Metcalf (8-6) placed 2nd. He lost by fall to Remington Pugh (Campus) 11-1 (Fall 2:59); won by fall over Graden Rodden (Hesston) 2-5 (Fall 0:54); won by fall over Landon Bomberger (Chaparral) 7-3 (Fall 1:32); won by fall over Lawrence Hayes (Oxford) 0-5 (Fall 0:09); and lost a 7-13 decision to Brody Coleman (Marion) 3-2.
