The Eureka Tornado junior high basketball teams made the short trip to Howard last Monday, Dec. 8, where the Tornadoes split with the Patriots.
In A-team Lady action, the teams were tied at 4 after the first, but Eureka edged ahead in the second, taking a 16-10 lead at halftime. Both teams scored six in the third quarter with the score being 22-16 going into the final stanza. The Patriots closed the gap, but Eureka held on to win the game, 26-22. Scoring for the Lady Tornadoes were Molly Dehlinger 10, Bella Damron 8, Alivia Hare 6 and Kaylee Palmer 2. Scoring for West Elk were Leah Humphrey and Avery Tillapaugh each with 6, Kinzie Church and Pyper Ford each with 4 and Bentley Wade 2.
Eureka’s B-team battled the Patriots in a two-quarter match-up with the Lady Tornadoes coming away with an 8-6 victory. Scoring for Eureka were Braxtyn Evenson, Raegen Ashlock, Briella Thompson and Khloe Crisswell all with 2. Scoring for West Elk were Izzy Toon, Haylie Bliss and Rachel Benson.
Despite holding a 19-17 lead at halftime, the Eureka A-team boys fell to the Patriots, 30-34. Eureka stuck with the Patriots throughout the game but West Elk came out on top. Scoring for Eureka were Cord Adkins 12, Liam Mead 6, Donovan Owings 4, Gavin Gonzales and Felix Neill each with 3 and Henry Lindamood 2. Scoring for the Patriots were Baxton Andrews, Cy Denton and Carson Tindle all with 8, Brantley Avritt 6 and Taran Triboulet 4.
The Tornado boys B-team struggled to get baskets to fall with just one scorer for the evening. The Tornadoes trailed 0-8 after the first and lost the two-quarter game, 3-12, with Brannon Blakley being the lone scorer for Eureka. Scoring for the Patriots were Dakota Ghramm, Weston Houchin, Denton, Dennis Burke, Gavin Criger and Triboulet all with 2.
