Attic Fire Believed To Have Been Electrical In Nature

Attic Fire Believed To Have Been Electrical In Nature
Family Of Four Displaced After Friday Morning Fire In Eureka

A Eureka family’s home was damaged last Friday, Dec. 5, after a fire began at 521 E. River St., in Eureka.

Fire crews were dispatched to the home at approximately 8:41 a.m., after a Greenwood County Sheriff’s Deputy noticed smoke bellowing from the eaves and attic.

Three members of the family were at the home at the time of the fire but were able to get out without injury.

According to the Eureka Fire Department, first arriving crews determined the fire was in the attic toward the rear of the house. Crews were able to pull the ceiling below the fire and extinguish the blaze, confining the fire to the attic area above the kitchen. It was determined the cause of the fire was electrical in nature.

Due to the damages, the James Pedigo family was displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting the family with hotel costs for a few days; but, the family didn’t have insurance on the home and is now looking at renting while making repairs, during Christmas time.

Donations for the family, including two small boys, can be taken to The Eureka Herald, 822 E. River St., Ste 100, during regular office hours Monday-Friday. 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. The 4-year-old boy is a “Bluey” fan and the 3-year-old boy is a “Hey Duggee” fan.

Monetary donations should be made payable to James Pedigo.
