Susannah French Putney Chapter DAR

November is well-known for being the month in which we Americans celebrate Thanksgiving. November is also important because we set aside time to celebrate the sacrifices of our veterans. How did you honor our Veterans this year?

The Susannah French Putney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) spent part of November honoring veterans by being involved in the Veterans’ Day Festivities around the El Dorado area. Members spent time with veterans’ groups planning a parade and other activities around the Veterans’ Day Holiday. Meetings, helping with food prep at the parade, and at a concert were just some of the activities in which they were involved.

The Susannah French Putney Chapter monthly meeting was held on Nov. 21, at the Butler County Historical Museum. The meeting began with devotions by Ann Wimberly, followed by the Preamble to the Constitution, the DAR Ritual, Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the Star Spangled Banner.

The program for November was “Honoring our Veterans.” Members shared many heartwarming and some heroic stories of veterans who were family members who have served in the military.

There were also some displays and photos that they shared. Members also made donations to the Veterans’ Home in Winfield and to the Wreaths Across America project. It was announced that Wreaths Across America placing of wreaths will be on December 13. Members signed Christmas cards to be sent to the Veteran’s home in Winfield, along with a gift certificate to the home.

Hostesses for the meeting were Carla Cook, Sigrid Denchfield, and Kimberly Ring. Red white and blue decorations and cookies and dessert were served. The next meeting will be Dec. 19 and will be a Christmas Party at the Butler County Historical Museum in El Dorado.

Members attending were: Regent Teresa Bachman, Sue Ann Brown, Kay Catlin, Cook, Denchfield, Janet Green, Loria Howard, Deborah Keplar, Martha Reidl, Ring, Rise Russin, Marsha Todd, Nita Whiteman and Wimberly.
