The Eureka Lady Tornadoes opened the 2025-26 basketball season in impressive fashion last Tuesday night, traveling to Sedan and walking away with a convincing 50–13 win over the Blue Devils.
Eureka set the tone early with dominant defense, holding Sedan scoreless in the first quarter while building a 15–0 lead. Arabella Shepherd got the scoring started for the Lady Tornadoes by knocking down a three-pointer, igniting an early scoring surge.
The second quarter saw Eureka cool off offensively, but the defense continued to smother the Blue Devils. Despite the brief scoring drought, senior Britta Mongeau provided a spark by hitting two three-pointers, helping Eureka outscore Sedan 10–7 in the period and take a 25–7 lead into halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, the Lady Tornadoes caught fire in the third quarter, pouring in 18 points. Shepherd led the charge with seven points as Eureka extended its lead and put the game out of reach.
Eureka’s pressure defense and balanced scoring proved too much for Sedan, as the Lady Tornadoes showed they are ready for another strong season right out of the gate.
Ellianna Coulter led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Shepherd with 12 and Mongeau with 8. Lydia Mason added 6 points, Sydney Lindamood chipped in 5, Hannah Perrier scored 2, and Milly Koop rounded out the scoring with 1.
The Lady Tornadoes will be back in action Tuesday night in Yates Center when they take on Sedan again in the Wildcat Classic. The semi-championship game will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m., with the championship game slated for Friday, Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
