The Eureka Junior High Tornadoes hosted the Yellowjackets of Fredonia for their season opener last Thursday, Dec. 4, where the Lady Tornado A-team came away with the sole victory for Eureka.
Eureka’s A-team ladies trailed 9-10 at the end of the first but edged over the Yellowjackets in the second to lead 18-16 at halftime. The teams continued to battle in the second half, with Eureka retaining a 21-20 lead entering the final quarter. The Lady Tornadoes dominated the fourth quarter and claimed a 38-31 victory. Scoring for the Lady Tornadoes were Molly Dehlinger 18, Bella Damron 8, Braxtyn Evenson 5, Kaylee Palmer, Kinsley Cox and Raegen Ashlock all with 2 and Mia Ptacek 1.
The Lady Tornadoes B-team fell 13-14.
Eureka’s A-team boys battled the Yellowjackets but came up short, 29-33. The B-team fell 7-35. Additional details regarding the B-team girls and boys games were unavailable at the time of publication.
