The Eureka Tornado High School wrestling teams officially began last Saturday, Dec. 6, as the Tornadoes took the mats in Lindsborg and El Dorado.
Eureka’s Lady Tornadoes traveled to Smoky Valley in Lindsborg for the Doug Krestzer Klassic, where two Tornadoes claimed hardware; while the boys made the short trip to El Dorado. Four boys claimed hardware during their opening tournament.
Following are the results for Tornado wrestlers: Doug Kretzer Klassic 110: Emma Baumgartel (4-1) placed 3rd. She received a bye; lost by fall to Reagan Neal (Bluestem) 4-1 (Fall 2:35); won by fall over Baylie Drown (Gypsum- Southeast of Saline HS) 0-2 (Fall 1:48); won by fall over De`ja Giles (Newton Hs) 2-2 (Fall 3:26); won by fall over Aaida Brown (Hutchinson) 3-2 (Fall 2:36); and won by fall over Odyssey Robinson (Newton Hs) 3-2 (Fall 0:56).
125: Maela Neill (3-2) placed 5th. She won by fall over Izzabell Klamczynski (McPherson) 1-2 (Fall 1:03); won by fall over Sadie Vice (Bluestem) 4-3 (Fall 2:49); lost a 4-11 decision to Abbie Slothower (Salina-Central) 4-0; lost a 3-4 decision to Amara Dossett (McPherson) 5-2; and won by fall over Sadie Vice (Bluestem) 4-3 (Fall 2:13).
170: Harlie Owings (21) placed 2nd. She won by fall over Favour Tembei (Newton Hs) 0-2 (Fall 1:02); won a 4-0 decision over Layla Simmons (Wichita-Heights) 2-2; and lost a 1-7 decision to Johana Jasper (Salina-South) 3-0.
El Dorado Wrestling Tournament 120: Maddox Hughes (12) placed 3rd. He won by fall over Kyle Lybarger (Council Grove) 0-3 (Fall 0:45); lost a 1-16 tech fall to Peyton Roberts (El Dorado) 2-1; and lost a 0-16 tech fall to Hayden Rathgeber (Chaparral) 3-0.
126: Mason Hughes (23) placed 4th. He won by fall over Tristen Hitt (Burlingame) 2-3 (Fall 1:42); won by fall over Brayden Buck (Eureka) 0-5 (Fall 1:18); lost by fall to Leo DeDonder (Council Grove) 5-1 (Fall 1:42); lost by fall to Jax Cornejo (El Dorado) 4-1 (Fall 2:43); and lost a 4-12 major decision to Jaxon Avila (Derby) 3-2.
126: Christian Sanchez (3-2) placed 5th. He lost a 0-15 tech fall to Jaxon Avila (Derby) 3-2; won by fall over Eli Catlin (Garden Plain) 1-4 (Fall 1:55); lost a 5-25 tech fall to Jax Cornejo (El Dorado) 4-1; won by fall over Brayden Buck (Eureka) 0-5 (Fall 2:12); and won a 14-5 major decision over Eli Catlin (Garden Plain) 1-4 (MD 14-5).
