Greenwood County Commission Held Short Weekly Meeting

The Greenwood County Commission held a 12-minute meeting on Monday, Dec. 1, where they discussed routine business.

Commissioner Roy Ballard shared that he had received questions from residents concerned about Eureka Township being taken over by the county. Ballard was hopeful that a statement could be shared with the public to help clarify that the county isn’t absorbing the township but rather taking over as the board for that township. Commissioner Judd Everitt noted that clarifying details were in the newspaper previously. Additional details will be shared following the work session next week, where the commissioners meet with legal counsel, road and bridge, and the clerk.

Greenwood County Hospital (GWCH) CEO Sandra Dickerson shared that Jan Stephens had resigned her position on the GWCH Board of Trustees earlier this month. She noted that Eureka resident Lonnie Nichols has also expressed interest in serving on the board. The commission had previously shared that county resident JJ Smith was interested in serving. The commission plans to talk to both parties before making an appointment. Questions were also asked about the 2026 GWCH budget as commissioners were looking to review it. Dickerson shared that the budget was submitted to the commission back in June. Commissioners planned to review records. It was also noted that phase 1 of the HVAC project was completed with phase 2 still upcoming; however, the time of the project is unknown at this time as it is roughly a $2 million project.

One bid was opened for the upcoming annual dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 1 p.m. for county employees. The bid was from TNT Catering for $17.50 per serving or $1,750 for 100 people for a brisket dinner. The commission approved the bid as presented.

A CMB renewal license for Pete’s of Erie for their Severy location (at the 400/99 south junction) was approved for 2026.

The commission also approved the meeting minutes from Nov. 24 and a special payable for Atmos Energy for $94.23, as presented.

The next Greenwood County Commission meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 8 at 9 a.m. The meeting will be followed by a work session to discuss the upcoming closing procedures for Eureka Township.
