Participated In New York City Marathon

North Metro Fire firefighters, based out of Broomfield, Colo., Charlie Charbonneau and Kevin Hayes took on the New York City Marathon on Nov. 2, joining more than 59,000 runners for the largest marathon in history. They covered all 26.2 miles through the five boroughs, carrying a mission bigger than the race itself.

Charbonneau and Hayes were selected as two of just ten runners nationwide to represent Team Hoyt, fundraising for The Hoyt Foundation—an organization dedicated to empowering and including people with disabilities. Their efforts raised more than $12,000, supporting adaptive athletes with equipment, race fees, and opportunities to participate fully in the sport they love.

Both firefighters have deep ties to disability advocacy, and the work continues here at home through the growing Denver Chapter of Team Hoyt. Their commitment helps ensure more local kids have the chance to “race,” feel included, and belong.

Hayes is the son of Larry and Cindy Hayes of rural Eureka.
