Members of the Susannah French Putney Chapter went on an excursion for their Oct. 18 meeting to the City of Emporia, where the ladies toured the home of William Allen White, editor of the Emporia Gazette, and well-known for his editorials and opinions that put him in the public and political
world in the United States. He has been well-known in the state for his William Allen White children’s book list, but he added much more to society than that. He was a well-known progressive and shared friendships with locals from Emporia, to even the President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. The ladies of Susannah French Putney chapter enjoyed a tour of Red Rocks, the William Allen White home, by Lori De Winkler, a member of the Southeast Historical Society of Kansas, and also involved in the upkeep and tours of the beautiful historic home. DeWinkler shared some interesting and sometimes humorous accounts of the personalities of those that lived in the William Allen White home.
