Susannah French Putney Chapter

Members of the Susannah French Putney Chapter went on an excursion for their Oct. 18 meeting to the City of Emporia, where the ladies toured the home of William Allen White, editor of the Emporia Gazette, and well-known for his editorials and opinions that put him in the public and political

world in the United States. He has been well-known in the state for his William Allen White children’s book list, but he added much more to society than that. He was a well-known progressive and shared friendships with locals from Emporia, to even the President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. The ladies of Susannah French Putney chapter enjoyed a tour of Red Rocks, the William Allen White home, by Lori De Winkler, a member of the Southeast Historical Society of Kansas, and also involved in the upkeep and tours of the beautiful historic home. DeWinkler shared some interesting and sometimes humorous accounts of the personalities of those that lived in the William Allen White home.

After the tour, members met at the Pizza Ranch in Emporia to enjoy a lunch and some fellowship with a few members of the Emporia DAR chapter. After a short meeting, all that attended shared lunch and friendship.

Those attending from Susannah French Putney DAR chapter include: Regent Teresa Bachman, Sue Ann Brown, Carla Cook, Sigrid Denchfield, Janet Green, Loria Howard, Sharon McClure, Constance Mitchell, Kimberly Ring, Rise Russin, Marilyn Seymour, Nita Whiteman, and Ann Wimberly. Emporia Chapter DAR attendees included: Regent DeWinkler, Marilyn Goozen and Yvonne Pool.
