The Greenwood County Commissioners primarily discussed routine business during their Monday, Nov. 10, meeting.
Commissioners Judd Everitt, Ron Mast and Mac Obourn recently conducted the Mann Road viewing and recommended the road be closed. The commission approved closing the road and noted that a resolution would need to be drafted and approved at a future meeting.
Greenwood County Attorney Jill Gillett presented the commission with a quote for a security door system update, leading into the attorney’s office. The current door isn’t operating adequately and with the help of Maintenance Director Greg Rawlings, Attorney Gillett gathered the quote from the same company that provides the keycards for the county. The county approved the bid, totaling $4,899.03, with Gillett noting that the funds will come from the diversion fund (which is comprised of fees collected from diversion fees).
The commission held four executive sessions, where no action was taken after any of the sessions; a 5-minute executive session for legal matters, about the Hebb fence appeal, with County Counselor Paul Dean; a 5-minute executive session for legal matters, about the county line dispute, with Counselor Dean; a 10-minute executive session for legal matters about the Eureka Township Resolution with Counselor Dean and Emergency Management Director Levi Vinson; and a 15-minute executive session for personnel matters (no justification was provided) with Counselor Dean. Clerk Deann Mc-Caffree was asked to join the session about halfway through the session.
Commissioners then noted questions regarding the fee structure and how the county reimburses for transfers. Commissioners had previously approved paying $100 per transfer as an incentive for staff. The commission asked Clerk McCaffree to add EMS Director Brian Mongeau to the agenda next week for discussion/ clarification.
Although a Road and Bridge report wasn’t presented during the weekly meeting, it was noted that Supervisor Allen Greenwood believes he will have an H&H study on the bridge by Reece soon.
County Commissioner Mast relayed that citizens of Severy have asked to look into ways to remove the cement blocks in the intersection of Main Street and Kansas Avenue. It was noted that an engineering study was completed years ago. The commission plans to reach out to Engineer Michael Marris for details.
Maintenance Supervisor Rawlings provided an update to the commission regarding a recent water leak that caused damages to the Clerk of the District Clerk’s office and the commission meeting room. He noted that he is currently working on obtaining bids from local vendors. These quotes must be approved by the county’s insurance provider, KCAMP, before he presents them to the commission.
A draft joint letter of interest and support between the county and the City of Eureka for the TerraPower nuclear facility was reviewed.
The Nov. 3 meeting minutes were approved as presented, along with the Nov. 10 special payables, totaling $12,199.44; Nov. 14 regular payables, totaling $189,451.76; and Nov. 14 regular payroll, totaling $158,640.30.
The commission reviewed the treasurer’s report.
The next meeting for the Greenwood County Commission is slated for Monday, Nov. 17, at 9 a.m.
