Letter To The Editor

(Editor’s Note: Each week, The Herald poses a “Question of the Week” on their facebook page with many responding. Comments made on the posts, may or may not be factual in nature and are to be noted as that person’s comment only.)

Dear Editor, I was surprised to learn that our state representatives, Dr. Duane Droge and Mike Fagg, recently hosted a “coffee time” with constituents—but no one seemed to know about it until afterward. Only the event venue posted about the coffee time while it was happening with many community members commenting that they wished they had known so they could attend. And unfortunately, this venue can only hold a small people so it seems they didn't want much community engagement after all.

It’s crucial that our representatives host genuine community engagement opportunities. These events allow them to hear firsthand how their constituents feel about important issues they will be voting on. In today’s age of social media, email, and local news, it’s easy to announce events so that all members of the community have a fair chance to participate. I hope future events are publicized widely so that every voice can be heard.
