The Eureka Junior High wrestlers began their short season last week, with Tornado wrestlers traveling to three different tournaments.
Eureka Lady Tornadoes hit the mats first on Monday, Nov. 3, with a tournament at Independence, bringing home 1 first, 1 second and 1 third place finish. The boys then traveled to Burlington on Tuesday, Nov. 4 for the 25th annual “Cat Classic,” with the Tornadoes bringing home 1 first, 2 second, 2 third and 2 fourth place finishes.
The Tornadoes capped off their week with the Tri-Valley League (TVL) meet at Cherryvale on Thursday, Nov. 6. Eureka dominated on the mats, claiming 7 first place finishes, 1 second place and 3 third place finishes.
Following are the individual results for Eureka participants: Independence Middle School Girls 116-125: Adleigh Ray placed 2nd. She won a 3-1 decision over Leni Arnett (Pittsburg Middle School) and lost by forfeit to Lennox Gebara (Frontenac Jr. High).
127-129: Alex Holbrook placed 3rd. She lost by forfeit to Kennlie Brazil (Chanute); and lost by fall to Samya Jennings (Independence Middle School) (Fall 0:09).
145-155: Lakyn McCoy placed 1st. She won by forfeit over Sophia Wetzel (Pittsburg Middle School); and won by fall over Taryn Clay (Neodesha Middle School) (Fall 0:13).
171-175: Brielle Thompson placed 2nd. She won by fall over Kinsley Rader (Columbus) (Fall 0:17); and lost by fall to Rylie Noble (Chanute) (Fall 2:00).
25th Annual ‘Cat Classic’ Boys A 88-94: Brandon Cornett placed 2nd. He won a 7-6 decision over Azaiah McGregor (Jayhawk-Linn); lost a 1-6 decision to Luke Neal (Bluestem); and won by fall over Otis Hampton (Prairie View) (Fall 2:09).
Boys A 135-141: Felix Neill placed 2nd. He won by fall over Tanner Allen (Burlington) (Fall 0:51); won an 8-3 decision over Colton McCool (Prairie View ); and lost by fall to Rhett Kelly (Uniontown) (Fall 0:53).
Boys B 92-95: Cooper Wunderlich placed 4th. He lost by fall to Liam Bradshaw (Osawatomie) (Fall 0:41); lost a 0-15 tech fall to Scout Ballou (Prairie View); and lost by fall to Angel Perez (Wellsville) (Fall 0:15).
Boys B 125-132: Marcus Pearce placed 1st. He won by fall over Ethan Burk (Jayhawk-Linn) (Fall 1:39); won by fall over Henry Britz (Prairie View ) (Fall 0:42); and won by fall over Lincoln Gwillim (Humboldt) (Fall 1:28).
Boys B 128-138: Marcus Clark placed 3rd. He won by fall over Matthew Holding (Iola) (Fall 3:17); lost by fall to Quinten Austin (Osawatomie) (Fall 2:11); and lost by fall to Trew Hunt (Wellsville) (Fall 2:06).
Boys B 141-155: Noah Everly- Burtin placed 4th. He lost by fall to Ryland Herrrreck (Anderson County) (Fall 1:28); lost by fall to Caleb Jankovich-Setter (Iola) (Fall 0:53); and lost a 0-15 tech fall to Raiden Irving (Wellsville).
Boys B 180-190: Jackson Hobbs placed 3rd. He lost by fall to Tyson Stiles (Prairie View) (Fall 0:17); and lost by fall to Slayter Hedrick (Wellsville) (Fall 0:11).
TVL Tournament JH Girls 116-126: Adleigh Ray placed 1st. She won a 3-0 decision over Aleigha Sick (Fredonia); and won by fall over Quinn Miller (Humboldt).
JH Girls 129-131: Alex Holbrook placed 3rd. She lost a 1-16 tech fall to Ellie Brown (Caney); and lost by fall to Baylen Wood (Cherryvale).
JH Girls 151-155: Lakyn McCoy placed 1st. She won by fall over Taryn Clay (Neodesha); and won by fall over Taryn Clay (Neodesha).
JH Girls 167-171: Brielle Thompson placed 1st. She won a 10-2 major decision over Morgan Hencey (Humboldt); and won by fall over Morgan Hencey (Humboldt).
JH Boys 92-96: Cooper Wunderlich placed 1st. He won an 8-3 decision over Zaden Mellen (Humboldt); and won by fall over Trapper Kent (Bluestem).
JH Boys 94-99: Brandon Cornett placed 1st. He won by fall over Jeren Essig (Cherryvale); and won by fall over Nash Newby (Bluestem).
JH Boys 122-134: Marcus Clark placed 3rd. He lost a 1-9 major decision to Alec Davis (Cherryvale); and lost by fall to Cordell Schwinger (Caney).
JH Boys 127-135: Felix Neill placed 1st. He won a 10-2 major decision over Lane Wheatley (Caney); and won by fall over Braxton Wiseman (Bluestem).
JH Boys 130-132: Marcus Pearce placed 1st. He won by fall over Sylar Eaton (Fredonia); and won by fall over Lincoln Gwillim (Humboldt).
JH Boys 149-157: Noah Everly-Burtin placed 2nd. He lost by fall to Rylan Busch (Fredonia); and won by fall over Lane Novotney (Cherryvale).
JH Boys 177-182: Jackson Hobbs placed 3rd. He lost by fall to Garrett Pendleton (Neodesha); and lost by fall to Luke Turner (Bluestem).

The Eureka Tornado junior high wrestling team will return to Cherryvale this Thursday, Nov. 13, beginning at 3:45 p.m. Eureka will conclude their season next week with their home tournament on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 4 p.m. and traveling to Coffeyville on Friday, Nov. 21, at 3:30 p.m.
