MULVANE – Get ready, Kansas! The best cowboys and cowgirls in the Prairie States will compete in Mulvane, on Nov. 20-22 to vie for title of champions!
The top money winners, after a summer of rodeo, will be at Kansas Star Casino Arena for the Prairie Circuit Finals Rodeo, competing for more than $250,000 in prize money.
Over 100 competitors will compete in eight events: bareback riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping, saddle bronc riding, breakaway roping, barrel racing and bull riding.
“It’s a great opportunity for rodeo fans,” said Dru Melvin, Vice-President of the Prairie Circuit and a rodeo competitor.
“It’s not very often you see the best in these states (Kansas, Oklahoma and Nebraska) in one place, duking it out for cash,” he said. “For fans, it’s a great rodeo to watch.”
Not only will the cowboys and cowgirls be at the top of their game, but the livestock will, too. The best bucking horses and bulls will also be there, with the goal of throwing a cowboy to the dirt.
For “half-time” entertainment, Broken Spoke Clydesdales will be on hand with six Clydesdale horses pulling a wagon.
Other personnel include announcer Greg Simas, Danville, Penn.; bullfighter Tyler Dahl, Barnsdall, Okla. and Cole Stanley, Ft. Scott; rodeo clown Dusty Myers, Jumpertown, Miss.; sound director Jesse Knudsen, Manawa, Wisc.; pickup men Andy Eck, Redfield, and Dusty Moore, Freedom, Okla.; secretary Jennie Murray, Wellston, Okla.; timers Cindy Gillespie, El Dorado, and Kate Rumford, Abbyville and photographer Phillip Kitts, Manhattan.
The rodeo is the best entertainment in town, Melvin believes.
“It’s fun, fast paced, and everybody enjoys it, no matter if you’re three years old or 93,” he said. “It’s a tip of the hat to our western heritage.”
The rodeo takes place in the Kansas Star Casino. Tickets range in price from $21-$37 and can be purchased online at TicketMaster. com (search for Mulvane, Kansas, Prairie Circuit Finals Rodeo.)
