Thankful, Grateful & Blessed
Charlie Brodie and Mr. and Mrs. Levi Yoder wish to thank the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office for the Great and Professional Aid and Help rendered last Thursday evening 11-30-2025 - just exactly at sunset and after responding to my 911 call!
We were just past the hilltop in my car traveling south; and I slowed to maybe 55 to 60mph (Legal). All were in seatbelts; all car lights on.
A Deer or two were on the road running west, to our right - and fast. They cleared the road.
However, a third unseen doe shot out of a deep treeline to my left - and up a 50° slope - also to my left just out of my left sight vision edge......
I saw two “Ears” just above my left headlight & BOOM!” Faster than you can ‘Clap your hands’!!
I immediately hit the brakes, but under control! I found a place to park off the road and called 911. They responded Professionally and fast!
Very quickly, Deputy Sheriff Blake Fisher showed up - protecting our “Deer Hit Accident Site” - a bad blind spot just up the steep hill south of K99 Highway and 70th Street South - A STRETCH KNOWN AS A BAD SPOT FOR FATAL AND MAJOR ACCIDENTS!
Afterwards, I checked the road and saw a problem - and we three all quickly gathered up maybe 50 or so plastic pieces of my car that could cause flats.
We also carefully made sure the Deer was in fact dead.
I flagged to others - to slow down as they passed. Soon, the sun had set and it was dark.
~~~~~~~ The sheriff’s report shows “No one injured, no airbags deployed, no one hurt.” However, as I gathered the needed paperwork, I kind of went into a mild shock thinking of how we could all be badly injured or killed in that steep bar ditch where the deer now lay!
At 78, I have never had an notable accident ever - or even hit an animal other than a small bird in my long driving career.
This includes owning a Special 4 Semi-Truck Operation in the early 2,000’s hauling Military Ordinance and Bombs, etc. for over 3 Million miles without any Wreck, Incident, Negative Reports, or Inspection Issues. There were no Deer Hits either in those 3 Million miles!!
As “Seasoned a driver as I am” this incident involving my friends; and was kind of shocking for me, actually!
Deputy Blake sensed this - and was extremely patient and kind as I just went into a light shock. This is the sign of a great Professional Officer - I know having performed these same duties for some 8.5 years in the Military as an Army MP 1st Sgt, Trainer of some 2,000 Warfighters!
Sheriff, your duties bring your Sheriff’s Office Folks to the worst of wrecks and harshest of dangers regularly, as I personally experienced long ago.
I Thank God that we have very talented Folks like you and your Officers and Staff protecting us all! Greenwood County supports all of your efforts - even those who get tickets sometimes!! Thank You All For Your Service! I am very pleased to report your Officer Blake was really great with all of us!! We three in my car thank him for his Professional Efforts that tough evening; and we pray for you all. We are indeed fortunate to get on with our lives. Thanks again!!
RCehsaprelicetfBurlolyd, ie On Fall River Reservoir P.S. Levi was able to “Harvest” the deer legally; and we all had a Deer Stew last Saturday!!
