Flinthills Upset CVD; Advance To Regional Action

The Flinthills Mustangs dominated Cedar-Vale/Dexter (CVD) last Thursday, Oct. 30, with a 48-28 victory in week 9.

The Mustangs went into the game 4-4 and were a fourth seed, while CVD was seeded #1 with a 7-1 record.

CVD first found the endzone and claimed an 8-0 lead over the Mustangs, but it was shortlived, as Flinthills scored on a 3-yard reception with 1:55 left in the first quarter. The pass from Tripp Carney to Deken Girty was followed by a rush by Beau Hall to tie the game.

The Mustangs scored on a 37-yard pass from Carney to Ty Finley. The two point conversion attempt by Hall was good and the Mustangs took a 16-8 lead and never looked back.

Flinthills’ Hall scored on a 22-yard rush as time ran out in the first half. He also added the twopoint conversion and the Mustangs led 24-14 at halftime.

Both teams scored in the third, with the Mustangs adding 8, with a 5-yard rush and conversion attempt by Hall. CVD was unsuccessful on their two-point attempt and the score was 32-20 going into the final quarter.

The Mustangs added two more touchdowns in the fourth, both by Hall.

The first was a 35-yard run while the second was 4-yard run. Flinthills added two on both attempts, with Hall claiming the first by rushing and Carney finding Girty for their final two-point conversion of the game.

Although CVD found the endzone with 4:43 remaining in the game, the Mustangs claimed a 48-28 victory.

Leading the Mustangs defensively were: Mason Randall 8 tackles, Finley 6 tackles and 1 interception, Hall and Jaxon Swafford each with 5 tackles, and Carney, Colton Reust and Taylor Carroll all with 3 tackles.

The Mustangs advance to regional action in 8-man DI action. Flinthills will travel to Sylvan-Lucas (81, D4 #2) on Friday, Nov.
