Annual Cattlemen’s Day Event Held

The community gathered over the weekend for the annual Greenwood County Cattlemen’s Day event, in Eureka for several activities.

In it’s third annual contest, the Steak Cook-Off had six participants competing. Winning the contest was Jared Seeley and Latham Wiggins was second.

Winners for the annual parade were as follows: Historical Entries- Fuesz & Huntington, 1st place; Penwell, 2nd place.

Ranch/Farm Entries- Lindamood Ranch, 1st place; Bailey Ranch, 2nd place. 4-H Floats- Harmony Sunflowers, 1st place; Madison Pacesetters, 2nd place. Commercial Floats- Eureka Livestock Sales, 1st place; Ranch Aid Feed & Supply, 2nd place. All Other Groups & Organizations- Christian Hills Church, 1st place; Eureka Archery Club, 2nd place.

Horse with Riders: Oldest Rider- Steve Schroeder. Youngest Rider- Buster Bogle. Best horse and rider pair-Kylee Solon. 2nd horse and rider pair, Candice Ashlock. Horse drawn entries- McCabe, 1st place; Gulick, 2nd place.

All Scout & School entries- Girl Scouts.

The annual event concluded with the banquet at Memorial Hall with Dave Kendall serving as the entertainment. He presented a trailer of the documentary “Oasis on the Prairie.” During the banquet, winners were announced for the parade and steak cookoff, as well as the Big Bluestem grass contest, which was won by Jeanna Beeman 7’8” (adult division) and Jorja Beeman 7’11” (youth division).

Special awards were also presented to Nancy Kirkham for her efforts during the annual Greenwood County 4-H Livestock Sale and to Peyton Hoag for having the Greenwood County Born and Bred champion at the annual fair this year.
