The following state-ment was shared by former EJSHS student and Sterling College graduate Keeley Coon, “Mrs. Himes has been one of the most influential and important teachers in my life. What makes her an amazing teacher isn’t just her immense amount of talent or her abundance of knowledge. I believe that what sets apart good teachers from amazing teachers is their ability to see something in a student that they don’t see in themselves and bringing it out of them. This is what makes Mrs. Himes an amazing teacher. When I was a junior in high school, Mrs. Himes asked me to step into the role of conducting her church choir. I did not think I had the abilities or knowledge to do this well but she saw something in me that I didn’t even see. It was because of this position that I was able to learn from her and her husband John Himes. They are what led me to Sterling College. They have helped me find my faith as they are the embodiment of servant leaders. Mrs. Himes continues to pour into Sterling College and leads many of her students here as well. I am forever grateful for her and that I had the opportunity and blessing to have her as a teacher.”
