The West Elk Patriot football team traveled to Central Burden last Thursday, Oct. 23, where the Patriots claimed a 3626 win to move their overall record to 2-6.
“We finally put a complete game together,” stated head coach Ian Denton. “We were able to establish the run which allowed us to control the game and the clock. We executed well and finished drives in the endzone. Defensively we still struggled but were able to get a couple of stops and create a turnover. Credit to our kids, they are working hard each day, and we are starting to see progress on the field. We have had some young guys really start to play well that last couple weeks.”
The Patriots started the scoring with a 37-yard pass from Jaxson Bogdahn to Brycen Hobbs. The twopoint conversion attempt failed and the Patriots led 6-0. Burden answered on a 47-yard run; but, the Patriots would score three touchdowns before the Raiders found the endzone again.
West Elk’s Jared Tucker scored on a 4-yard run and the 2-point conversion attempt was successful with a pass from Jax. Bogdahn to Hobbs. Patriot Ryatt Greisel scored on an 8-yard run. West Elk was again successful on the 2-point conversion with a run by Jax. Bogdahn. The next touchdown for the Patriots was a 14-yard pass from Jax. Bogdahn to Jayton Bogdahn. The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful.
Burden added two touchdowns before West Elk’s Tucker found the endzone on a 1-yard run. Jax. Bogdahn was successful on the two-point conversion.
The Raiders scored one more time before the game concluded with the Patriots claiming the 36-26 victory.
“We will approach this week as any other week, we are going to prepare as best we can and do everything we can to give ourselves a chance to win. Getting to close out our season at home is a nice consolation after not making it to a bracketed game. Our seniors get the chance to end their careers in front of our fans. If we play well, it will send us into next year with some real momentum and confidence,” stated Coach Denton.
West Elk will host Northern Heights this Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m.
