The 10U Tornadoes Softball captured third place in this year’s Howl O Scream Tournament held in Goddard.
This young team came off a rough spring season to show up in force at the tournament. They started off against the Wichita Knights, one of the best teams in the state, falling 1-12. Continuing in pool play, the Tornadoes faced Venom Red, led by pitching from Brynsley Valentine. The girls gave up only 3 runs while hitting in 11 runs for themselves. Later that afternoon, the girls played Winfield Wild, routing them 12-5. Brylee Boone led the team in pitching against the Wild giving up only one hit and Stella Shivers had a 3 run homerun.
After Friday and Saturday's pool play, the Tornadoes went into Bracket Play with a record of 2-1.
Bracket play began Sunday morning with the Tornadoes facing Wicked. The girls fought hard for a 7-3 win led by B. Valentine hurling 13 strikeouts. Heading into the quarterfinals, the Tornadoes competed against the KS Renegades, who had battled up the backside of the bracket, winning two games prior in the day.
Despite a hard fought effort, the team lost 4-14. Playing 5 games over three days, the Tornadoes earned 3rd place in the tournament. Valentine had 21 strikeouts with 2 walks and Boone at 13 strikeouts with 2 walks throughout the tournament. Marshall Elementary held a ceremony for them Monday morning to celebrate and host their trophy at the school.
