The Toronto High School 116th Annual Alumni Association meeting and luncheon was held Saturday, Oct. 4 at noon at the Toronto Senior Center due to renovations at the Gym. There were 29 members and 13 guests present for a total of 42. There were no new inductees this year.
A quick reminder to all: if you're a member and your child, grandchild or great-grandchild wants to become a member, contact a member of the Alumni. If you would like to join the Alumni regardless of how old you are, if you are 18 or older and have a family member who is an Alumni member you can join or, if you are a high school senior who would have gone to High School at Toronto, if there was still a high school, and would like to join contact an Alumni member and let them know of your desire.
There are no longer initiations so if you’d like to join, please contact a member.
Larry Hibbard gave the invocation and President Chari Bauman gave the welcome. The meal was catered by Silverado’s of Piqua with pulled pork, smoked chicken, cheesy potatoes, roll and cake.
President Bauman introduced Brent Dyer as Toastmaster. Toastmaster Dyer recognized celebrated classes who were in attendance: Ed Sherman, Class of 1950; Virgil Lee Ward, Class of 1960; and Larry Clark, Harley Schlotterbeck, Vicki Hobbs Gibson, Linda Wilhite Clark, and Carol Laird Mishler, Class of 1965.
Dyer told a humorous story with the concluding, “Age has a way of leveling things out at class reunions!”
There was no old business.
In new business, Sharri Fuller reported on the planned playground, gym renovation, and the school bell memorial. There was discussion of the location of the Alumni next year. Since the Gym should be open by that time, it was agreed that it is the best place to hold the Alumni.
There were no nominees for officers and there were no volunteers from the floor. Fuller agreed to carry on as Secretary/Treasurer and she would try to fill the vacant positions. Jerry Clark moved and Harley Schlotterbeck seconded this nomination. It was voted on and passed.
In closing, the group stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the Alumni Song, “Sunflower.” Led by Linda Clark her son, Lacey and niece, Teresa Blackmore.
