Toronto News

I couldn’t help but laugh while watching the KOAM morning news last Thursday morning. The two people were talking about the weather and the weatherman man said that it was September 46! He said he knew it was October by looking at the calendar, but weather wise, it was still September. So Thursday was Sept. 46th as well as Oct. 16.

Whatever time of year it is, the weather has been great.

How much coffee did Teddy Roosevelt drink in a day’s time?

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.

We offer our sympathy to the families and friends of Bobby Joe Johnson and Virgil Stuber. We offer our sympathy to all others who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.

A lot of yards and houses are decked out for Halloween, which falls on Friday this year. One week from today. “Trunk or Treat” is this Saturday, Oct. 25, from 4-6 p.m. on Main Street Toronto. Everyone is welcome to attend. Get creative and decorate your trunk, pickup bed or set up a table all decorated.

Whether or not you dress up in costume or decorate your vehicle, your are welcome to join in on the fun of passing out goodies to the kids. And by kids, I mean teenagers also! I’d rather give treats to teens than have them causing trouble or tearing up something.

Answer: It’s been estimated that Teddy Roosevelt drank at least one gallon of coffee per day with 6-7 lumps of sugar per cup! Along with his favorite breakfast “Fat Rascals.” According to What Was Cooking in Edith Roosevelt’s White House? by Tanya Larkin, one of the first lady’s “most treasured recipes” was for fat rascals, which are essentially flaky biscuits filled with dried currants. The Roosevelt’s enjoyed these biscuits for breakfast served alongside hard-boiled eggs and coffee.

I hope you looked towards the night sky this week; there was to be a meteorite shower. October is a busy month for celestial events.

I saw something funny at Walmart. I know, I know, you’re thinking there is always something funny at Walmart. There were three lines of people waiting to check out at the ‘self-check’ registers while multiple employees were standing, waiting for someone to check out! I know some think they are saving time by using the self-check, but to stand there and wait in long lines!?!

Personally, I don’t use those self-check lanes, to me that is why they have people working the registers.
