The Eureka Junior High Tornadoes ended their 2025 season with a 14-38 loss to the visiting Cherryvale Chargers. The Chargers went undefeated in Tri-Valley League play and won the league title with the win. The Tornadoes fought gamely but were outclassed by the bigger and faster Cherryvale squad.
Cherryvale began the game with possession and scored on their second play from scrimmage by simply breaking one tackle and then outrunning the pursuit. Failing on the conversion, they held Eureka to no yards gained and then scored again the same way. Their second attempt at a conversion was good, making the score 0-14.
Although Eureka turned the ball over with an interception on their next possession, Cherryvale gave the ball right back to the Tornadoes with a fumble of their own. Eureka gave it back to the Chargers on downs and they scored again on another long run. The Eureka defenders were playing good assignment football but couldn’t deal with the Chargers’ speed.
Two more touchdowns before halftime sealed the Tornadoes’ fate, making the score 0-38 at the break. All six of the Charger touchdowns in the game came on long runs or passes where the ball carrier simply outran the Tornadoes.
With a running clock in the second half, the Tornadoes managed their first score on a 66-yard run by 8th grader Marcus Pearce. The conversion failed, but the Tornadoes were finally on the board.
After forcing the Chargers to turn the ball over on downs, and with the game clock winding down, the Tornadoes scored again, this time on a slick halfback pass from Pearce to 8th grader Gavin Gonzalez. Eighth grader Cord Adkins threw a swing pass to 8th grader Brandon Cornett for the conversion, making the final score 1438.
