Nominating Your Favorites Is As Easy As 1-2-3
The Kansas Press Association (KPA), in partnership with Kansas Newspapers, has announced the launch of the Best of Kansas Holiday Contest, a statewide initiative to celebrate the events, attractions and traditions that make the holiday season in Kansas shine. Kansans are invited to nominate their favorite fall, Thanksgiving and winter holiday experiences for recognition in this festive competition. From pumpkin patches and haunted hayrides to Christmas concerts and sparkling light displays, the contest highlights the best seasonal traditions Kansas communities have to offer.
Nominations are open through Oct. 17, at 11:59 p.m. Central time. Voting will begin Oct. 27, 2025, at 1 2 a.m. Central time. “Kansas communities have incredible ways of celebrating the season, from small-town parades to dazzling light shows and cherished holiday traditions,” said Amber Jackson of the Kansas Press Association. “This contest gives people across the state a chance to spotlight the unique events and experiences that make Kansas a holiday destination.”
Contest Categories Fall & Halloween: Pumpkin patch; Corn maze; Trick-or-treat event; Haunted hayride or house; Fall farm experience; Oktoberfest; Fall food festival Thanksgiving: Turkey trot or run; Community feast or dinner; Harvest festival; Christmas & Winter Holidays; Parade; Santa appearance; Santa village; Holiday train ride; Ice skating or winter activity; Christmas concert; Holiday performances, including The Nutcracker or other holiday shows; Holiday lights and drive-thru displays; Holiday markets and craft fairs; Holiday fireworks; Tree lighting ceremonies; New Year’s Eve celebrations General Holiday: Overall holiday town; Holiday tradition in Kansas; Holiday food festival, bake sale or cookie walk; Volunteer or charity event for the holidays.
Residents, travelers and community members are encouraged to nominate their favorites and return to vote once the contest officially opens. Nominations can be submitted online at extra. ljworld.com/Best-of-Kansas.
