Eureka Tornado Volleyball To Begin Post Season Play Monday

The Lady Tornado volleyball team had a busy week last week, first battling the Yellowjackets at Fredonia on Monday, Oct. 6 in a fiveset match, before traveling to Towanda for the Circle Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Eureka went 3-2 against Fredonia to win the match, 16-25, 25-22, 14-25, 25-21 and 15-6. The Tornadoes tallied 12 ace serves, 44 kills, 2 blocks, 41 assists and 119 digs. Leading the Tornadoes were Madelyn Miller, 1 ace serve, 12 kills, 2 assists and 21 digs; Arabella Shepherd, 2 ace serves, 18 kills, 5 assists and 17 digs; and Alaina Westerman, 5 kills, 17 assists and 20 digs.

Eureka went 1-4 at Circle, moving their overall record to 13-17.

The Lady Tornadoes first faced Wichita North, falling 20-25 and 16-25. Eureka recorded 4 ace serves, 14 kills, 6 blocks, 13 assists and 38 digs.

Against Eudora, the Tornadoes fell 12-25 and 1725. Eureka recorded 2 ace serves, 8 kills, 1 solo block, 7 assists and 16 digs. Eureka next faced Lyons, where they fell 21-25 and 18-25. The Tornadoes tallied 2 ace serves, 11 kills, 2 block assists, 10 assists and 43 digs.

In their final match of the tournament, the Tornadoes defeated Douglass in a three-set match, 25-18, 23-25 and 2624. Eureka tallied 7 ace serves, 31 kills, 5 blocks, 31 assists and 73 digs.

Eureka continued play on Tuesday of this week where they were scheduled to host Cherryvale and Humboldt. The final home match was also set as senior/parent night.

The Lady Tornadoes will travel to Neodesha this Thursday, Oct. 16 for their final regular season matchup.

Post season play will begin on Monday, Oct. 20. Eureka is in Class 2A- Regional 2. Official brackets for regional action was to be released on Monday of this week; however, as of presstime it hadn’t yet been released. It is believed that the Tornadoes are the 9th seed in the 16-team regional and will travel to Humboldt next Monday. The top two teams will advance to Sub-State action on Saturday, Oct. 25.
