Write-In Candidate • Eureka USD 389 Pos. 4
1. What is your primary reason for running for this position?
My reason for running for school board is that I want to become more involved in our community. When my wife and I decided to move here 8 years ago it was to create a home in a good community. This town has been great to our family and I want to be able to contribute something back to Eureka. Now that we have children who are both school aged, I want to be more involved in their education, so when I saw there was a chance to run for school board, I knew it was a no brainer. This is the perfect opportunity to be helpful to the school, the students and the parents of our community.
2. What is your vision for your city/board of education and how would you help achieve it?
My vision for the board can be summed up by the acronym “IDEA”. I stands for involved. I want to be actively involved with our school and community. D stands for Dialogue. I want to encourage open and healthy dialogue between school board members, faculty, parents, and community members. E stands for education. I want to make sure our children are receiving the highest quality of education possible. Lastly, A stands for action. I want to put into action the ideas of our students and families, and act on behalf of the best interests of all our community.
3. What three issues do you consider to be your “top priorities?” This is my first time running for any office, so I want to focus on learning how to improve the school board. To do this I need to communicate with parents and faculty alike, as well as the other board members. I also think that it is important that we strive to improve all aspects of the educational experience for all students. Lastly, I want to make sure that we are actively listening and reacting to issues that may arise in our community that may have any bearing on our schools.
4. What background do you have that will help you in this role, if elected?
I have a bachelor’s degree in business management from Emporia State University, and I have also worked as an inside sales rep as part of a small team for different companies over the last 12 Years. I have the experience and skills to be able to work with others in a professional setting to accomplish goals. I know what it takes to be able to get the best out of my team by using their strengths while compensating for their weaknesses. I also know how to compromise so that everyone leaves feeling satisfied.
5. How do you feel the current board/council is doing in their service?
I am not sure since I am not super familiar with them, but I look forward to meeting them and hopefully serving with them. I personally want our community to thrive so I want to be someone who can come in and do what needs to be done and want to be associated with people who think the same way. At the end of the day, we should all want to give our children the best education experience possible and to make sure all of our children’s needs are met.
6. Please list personal information or other information you feel is important.
I am a God-fearing family man that just wants to make sure the needs of my children and every other child in this city are being met. I want to be able to contribute and volunteer my time to give back and help a community that has been so good to me and my family. I will work hard and show up every time, and I will not back down from a challenge, especially when people need me the most. I want to be elected to this role to show other regular people that you can’t change things or have a say if you just sit back and watch. I like to tell people “You can’t complain about things if you’re not willing to get your hands dirty to fix it.”
