The Lady Tornado high school vollleyball team had a busy week last week with four days of action.
To kick-off the week, the Lady Tornadoes C/D teams hosted a quad with Marion, Olpe and Burlington on Monday, Sept. 29. Eureka went 0-3 for the day falling to Marion, 6-25 and 13-25; Burlington 1325 and 20-25; and to Olpe, 24-26 and 14-25.
At Caney
The Lady Tornadoes traveled to Caney on Tuesday, Sept. 30, for varsity action. Eureka lost the match to Bluestem, 22-25 and 15-25. Eureka tallied 4 ace serves, 18 kills. 16 assists and 54 digs. The Ladies were led by Madelyn Miller who tallied 1 ace serve, 3 kills. 1 assist and 13 digs; Ellianna Coulter who recorded 2 aces serves, 8 kills and 8 digs; Alaina Westerman who tallied 1 attack, 8 assists and 8 digs; and Kinlee Sanchez who recorded 1 ace serve and 11 digs.
Eureka lost to Caney, 8-25 and 16-25, moving their overall record to 8-14. The Lady Tornadoes recorded 3 ace serves, 7 kills, 7 assists and 43 digs. Eureka was led by Miller who tallied 2 ace serves, 2 kills, 1 assist and 8 digs; Arabella Shepherd who recorded 1 kill and 9 digs; and Sanchez who tallied 1 ace service and 9 digs.
In Junior Varsity (JV) action. the Tornadoes fell to Caney, 25-21, 13-25, 1015; and to Bluestem 15-25, 26-24, 9-15.
At Fredonia
Eureka traveled to Fredonia on Thursday, Oct. 2, where they battled against the Mustangs and Yellowjackets to claim both matches and move to 10-14.
Against Iola, Eureka battled in three sets and claimed the win, 25-23, 22-25 and 25-23. The Lady Tornadoes recorded 10 ace serves, 30 kills, 30 assists and 77 digs. Leading the team was Miller with 7 kills, 2 assists and 15 digs; Coulter with 2 ace serves, 5 kills, 2 assists and 7 digs; Shepherd with 5 ace serves, 8 kills, 2 assists and 10 digs; and Westerman with 3 kills, 6 assists and 16 digs.
The Tornadoes claimed the match in two sets against Fredonia, 25-23 and 25-20. Eureka recorded 4 ace serves, 20 kills, 3 blocks, 20 assists and 47 digs. Leading the Tornadoes were Miller, 4 kills, 3 assists and 10 digs; Shepherd with 5 kills, 1 block assist, 3 assists and 4 digs; Westerman with 3 kills, 3 assists and 10 digs; Hannah Perrier who recorded 5 kills, a solo and an assisted block, 1 assist and 2 digs; and Raylee Boles with 6 assists and 7 digs.
In JV action, the Lady Tornadoes fell to Fredonia, 20-25, 18-25; and defeated Iola, 25-18, 25-14.
At Flinthills JV
The Eureka JV volleyball team competed in the Flinthills Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 4, bringing home 4th place.
Eureka defeated Remington, 25-21 and 25-14 in game 1; lost to Flinthills, 14-25 and 18-25 in game 2; lost to Chase County 18-25 and 15-25 in game three; and fell to Remington in game 4, 8-25 and 15-25.
Eureka varsity volleyball will travel to Towanda on Saturday, Oct. 11 for the Circle Tournament, beginning at 9 a.m. The Lady Tornadoes will then host Cherryvale and Humboldt on Oct. 14 for Senior Recognition and Pink Out.
