West Elk football suffered a 0-54 loss last Friday to the Spartans of CedarVale/Dexter.
“Friday was a tough one, no question,” stated head coach Ian Denton. “A 54-0 loss stings, and sitting at 1-4 isn’t where we want to be. We got outplayed in every phase, and we’ll own that,” he stated.
The Patriots connected on 6 of 11 passes and rushed 15 times during the game. Combined, West Elk collected 50 yards (30 passing and 20 rushing) during week 5.
“We are learning through these challenges. We’ve got a lot of season left, and I believe in this group’s ability to grow, adapt, and come back stronger,” stated Coach Denton. “We’re heading back to the drawing board, focusing on fundamentals, and getting ready to compete next week. Our fans deserve better, and we’re committed to turning this around together,” he continued.
The Patriots will host Sedan this Friday, Oct. 10, for their annual fall homecoming event. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. The Homecoming parade will take place on Wabash Street at 3 p.m. and the West Elk Booster Club will begin serving its annual tailgate supper at 5:30 p.m. The crowning ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the football game.
