Jefferson Street Baptist Church has officially welcomed its new pastor, Jesse Burris, who began his ministry on September 15 following a call from the congregation.
After a series of interviews and preaching “in view of a call,” Burris was voted in by church members and accepted the pastoral position with excitement and a deep sense of calling.
For the past six years, Pastor Burris served as a family pastor—focusing on elementary and youth ministries in Haysville. Prior to his time in ministry, he worked in retail. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master of Divinity from Spurgeon College in Kansas City, Kan.
Raised and homeschooled south of Wichita, Burris said he felt called b y God t o serve in a smallt own church. “Primarily, I felt the Lord was calling me,” he said. “We also have family between Chanute and Iola, as well as Wichita, so this seemed like a great fit.”
Burris, along with his wife Krys and three-yearold daughter, Piper, will commute to the area from Haysville until they locate a permanent place to live in the Eureka community. Until then, Krys will continue to work at Dutch Bros Coffee Stop.
Pastor Burris says he’s most looking forward to getting to know the congregation and the community. “God has called me to be a pastor, so I am excited to get going,” Burris said.
His favorite Bible verse is Galatians 1:10, which reflects his commitment to serving Christ over seeking approval from others. In his free time, Pastor Burris enjoys read ing and watchi n g sports— particularly football and basketball. He’s a dedicated fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
