Nothing like being woken up by the tappiety-tap-tap of a woodpecker outside your window on the telephone pole. I really enjoy this time of year when we can have the windows and doors open. The sounds of nature early in the morning make for an amazing alarm clock.

This coming Saturday is the Annual Toronto Alumni Banquet. The location has been changed to the Toronto Senior Center due to the lack of bathrooms at the gym. The doors open at 10:30 a.m. with lunch at noon.

Which former president had a pet hyena?

Hello to all in area nursing and assisted living facilities. Hello also to all in area hospitals and rehab centers.

We offer our sympathy to the family and friends of Geri Elling. We offer our sympathy to all others who lost loved ones this past week. May they all rest in peace.

October is here and it is a busy, busy month with all kinds of festivals and reunions taking place. I think there are 2-3 events every weekend.

Answer: Theodore Roosevelt’s hyena’s name was Bill. When he began his presidency in 1901, his family moved into the White House with a menagerie. Among which was a lizard named Bill, a blue macaw named Eli Yale, Baron Spreckle the hen, Maude the pig, a one-legged rooster, a barn owl, and various guinea pigs with names such as Admiral Dewey and Fighting Bob Evans. As if that wasn’t strange enough, the Roosevelts also had a pet badger called Josiah, and a little black bear named Jonathan Edwards.
