County Commission Made Decision On Fence Issue;

Heard Community Service Update

The Greenwood County Commissioners held a short business meeting on Monday, Sept. 29, where they approved a motion finding the entire fence line insufficient; heard an update from the community service day and approved routine weekly items.

Following a 10-minute executive session with County Counselor Paul Dean, for legal matters pertaining to the recent fence viewing, the commission approved a motion noting that the fence in Section 19-20 in Township 27 (near 2775 50th St, in Fall River) was insufficient and needs to be repaired and/or replaced. The commission approved a 90-day time frame for Carvel “Kurly” Hebb and Brad Smith to repair/replace the fence on their right-hand side.

In new business, Jamie Lindamood shared that Eureka Junior/Senior High School recently held a successful community service day. Lindamood stated students completed projects around the community, including the Greenwood County Courthouse, Veterans Memorial Wall, Greenwood County Community Center (GC3), the parks and more. Lindamood also shared that the Greenwood County Fair Association board recently approved a budget for the GC3 facility, which includes closing the north and east walls, beautification projects throughout the facility, door hardware and updating the Braden Room (including new flooring).

Greenwood County Sheriff Heath Samuels shared an update on the replacement K-9 vehicle after it was deemed a total loss. On Monday morning, Samuels was awaiting a response from Parks Motors as he was hoping to purchase a Durango from the dealership for $43,000. Sheriff Samuels also shared that insurance gave $39,000 for the totaled vehicle.

Counselor Dean drafted an easement agreement with the Corp. of Engineers regarding BB Road, going into Whitehall Bay. Chair Mac Obourn signed the agreement. Obourn also signed the budget proposal for the court that was previously approved. There wasn’t a report from Road and Bridge this week.

Commissioners reviewed the treasurer’s report.

The commission approved the Sept. 22 meeting minutes, as well as the presentation of claims, including: special payable for $1,527.17, payables for $202,381.83, and payroll for $154,360.16.

Commissioner Preston Evenson was absent from the meeting.

The next meeting for the Greenwood County Commission is slated for Monday, Oct 6, at 9 a.m.
