The Eureka Tornadoes traveled to Humboldt to take on the Cubs in week 4 and hit the ground running. The first play from scrimmage was a 39-yard run by senior TJ Mills. The drive would be capped off with a 4-yard touchdown run by fellow senior Peyton Hare. The stingy Tornado defense forced a turnover on a 4th down to give the ball back to the offense which would score on a 25 yard pass and catch from Hare to senior Cole Ptacek to go up two scores on the Cubs. The two teams would trade a punt and a turnover on downs before senior Gauge Lopez recovered a fumbled snap to give the Tornadoes momentum. After a couple of penalties backed the Tornadoes up, Hare would find Mills for a 49-yard touchdown pass. The Tornado defense would force another turn-over with an interception by Ptacek to give the Tornado offense the ball back before half and would only need 4 plays to score. This time Mills took a toss for a 41-yard rush to the endzone. The two teams would trade a few turnovers before halftime. The Tornadoes went into the locker room up 26-0.
The Cubs came out of halftime energized and marched down the field for a touchdown but this would be their last of the night. The Tornadoes responded with a touchdown drive of their own, this time, junior Christian Andrews would find the endzone on a 57yard run capped off with a 2 point conversion on a pass from Hare to senior Noah Rippy. The two teams would trade drives for the remainder of the game. The only point of excitement in the 4th quarter came on Humboldt’s final offensive play which was picked off by junior Mason Hughes thwarting the final threat of the Cubs. The final: Eureka 34 - Humboldt 6.
Eureka will host Leon Bluestem next Friday for their Homecoming event. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
