Melvin G. Doane, 100, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield. Melvin was born on February 8, 1925, in Ringwood, Okla. The son of Luther Ellsworth and Amy Amanda (Glover) Doane Sr.
In 1945, Melvin joined the U. S. Army and served until October 1946, during WWII. On Sept. 1, 1961, Melvin married Joyce May Jacobs, Melvin and Joyce were married for 56 years until her death of Jan. 3, 2018.
Melvin was a very hardworking, kind, giving and caring man that loved his family. He was always there to help no matter what he had going on. Melvin worked for Cessna in Wichita for 37 years, when he was not there, he could be found on his tractor in the field, taking care of his animals, riding his horses, or building something. Melvin was a former member of Odd Fellows and a current member of the American Legion.
Melvin is survived by: Four Children: Calvin Doane and wife Lillian of Kowa; Frank Doane and wife Tammy of Howard; Amy Lance and husband Chris of Winfield; Bobbie Coldwell and husband Richard of Azle, Texas; Brother: Hugh Dewayne Doane and his wife Marina of Homestead, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 20 step-great-grandchildren.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce, a daughter Mary, siblings: Eugene, Luther Jr., Ernest, Donald, Marie, Lucile and Amy. Grandsons: Christopher Austin and Brenden Nally.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. at the Severy United Methodist Church, visitation will be held one hour prior to service time, with burial to follow at South Lawn Cemetery in Severy.
