Eureka Football Fell To Cherryvale; Move To Week Four With 2-1 Record

The Tornadoes were shocked and stonewalled by the Cherryvale Chargers last week losing 8-14. The Chargers came into the game with a plan to limit the explosive Eureka offense and they did just that. Cherryvale controlled the majority of the game’s time of possession and tempo. Eureka only had 35 offensive plays to the Chargers 70 plays. This game of keep away proved to be effective even with the Tornadoes winning the turnover battle 3-2.

Peyton Hare scored Eureka’s only points with a 7 yard touchdown run on the first drive followed by a 2 point run by Hare. The Tornadoes would have trouble even crossing midfield on offense after that first drive.

The only other time they did was thanks to a Cole Ptacek interception that got the Tornadoes to the Cherryvale 10 yardline. A penalty to start the drive could be seen as a bad omen as the Chargers would stop the Tornadoes on downs. While the Chargers went up 14-8 the Tornadoes still had a chance with 3:22 left on the Cherryvale 34 but the last ditch effort by the Tornadoes was thwarted with a Cherryvale interception in the endzone. The Tornadoes look forward to Humboldt next hoping to get back in the winning column.
