The Madison City Council meets bimonthly on the first and third Mondays of the month. The following report was generated from the official minutes of the Sept. 2 meeting, which were approved at a recent meeting.
The Madison City Council held their regular meeting on Sept. 2 at 7:04 p.m. The council approved the agenda, Aug. 18 meeting minutes, accounts payable and water adjustments.
During Open Forum, the council approved a 30-day extension for the property at 405 S. 5th that received a pre-violation letter. The extension will expire on Oct. 3.
Clerk Alice Grimm presented the council with the Clerk’s Report and the Treasurer’s Report. Grimm informed the council that the budget hearing would be held Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. Grimm also informed the council that Leiser Construction noted their excavator was down and it was not known when it will be fixed.
Multiple properties were discussed due to abatements, pre-violation letters and clean up progress. After discussion, the council approved to abate the properties located at 818 S. 4th and 601 W. Sherman.
The council opened bids for demolition and foundation regrade of the property located at 719 W. Lincoln. Two bids were presented from Knobloch for $5,500 and Leiser Excavating Demo for $7,500. The council approved the bid from Knobloch.
Discussion was held regarding loader repairs and attachments. After discussion, the council approved to repair the loader and order parts in the amount of $4,808.36.
The council held two Executive Sessions for non-elected personnel regarding employee performance to include council members only. The first was for 15 minutes and after returning to open meeting, Mayor Paul Dean suggested the council re-evaluate after 30 days. The second session was held for 10 minutes. No decisions were made after either session.
The council discussed the stipend agreement with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department. The stipend agreement includes $415 per month with water included per officer. The council also discussed culvert pricing with no decisions being made.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m. The next meeting of the Madison City Council will be held on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
