Tornado Varsity Volleyball Went 4-1 At Yates Center And Coffeyville Last Week

The Eureka High School Volleyball team had a busy week last week, participating in a triangular on Tuesday, Sept. 9; a dual on Thursday, Sept. 11; and hosting their annual tournament on Saturday, Sept. 13. See related article for tournament results.

At Yates Center

Eureka went 3-0 at Yates Center on Tuesday, defeating Marmaton Valley 25-11, 25-15; Chetopa 25-7, 25-16, and Yates Center 17-25, 25-23, and 25-11.

Against Marmaton Valley, the Lady Tornadoes recorded 14 ace serves, 17 kills, 13 assists and 24 digs. Eureka was led by Elliana Coulter who tallied 7 ace serves, 6 kills and 5 digs; Alaina Westerman who recorded 2 kills, 5 assists and 3 digs; Arabella Shepherd who had 1 kill, 1 assist and 5 digs; and Kinlee Sanchez who tallied 2 ace serves, 1 kill, 4 digs.

Against Chetopa, Eureka recorded 16 ace serves, 16 kills, 15 assists and 12 digs. The team was lead by Coulter who recorded 1 ace, 4 kills, 2 assists and 1 dig; Shepherd who tallied 6 aces, 1 kill and 1 assist; Maela Neill who recorded 1 ace, 1 assist and 4 digs; and Hannah Perrier who recorded 3 ace serves and 4 kills.

Against Yates Center, the Lady Tornadoes recorded 7 ace serves, 31 kills, 1 solo block, 2 block assists, 28 assists and 60 digs. The team was lead by Madelyn Miller who recorded 10 kills, 1 block assist, 1 assist and 17 digs; Shepherd who had 2 kills, 5 assists and 9 digs; Coulter who recorded 3 aces, 8 kills, and 9 digs; Addison Westerman who tallied 1 kill, 7 assists and 2 digs; Alain Westerman who tallied 4 kills, 1 block assist, 5 assists and 7 digs and Raylee Boles who tallied 1 kill, 10 assists and 7 digs.

At Coffeyville

On Thursday, Sept. 11, the Lady Tornadoes traveled to Coffeyville where they went 1-1 for the evening. Eureka defeated Coffeyville in 2 close sets and fell to Neodesha in 2 sets.

Eureka defeated Coffeyville 25-23 and 28-26. They recorded 13 aces, 18 kills, 1 solo block, 14 assists and 42 digs. Leading the Tornadoes were Boles who tallied 1 ace, 4 assists and 10 digs; Alaina Westerman who had 1 kill, 4 assists and 6 digs; Sanchez who recorded with 4 aces and 7 digs; Coulter with 1 ace, 9 kills and 4 digs; and Miller who tallied 3 aces, 3 kills, 3 assists and 5 digs.

In junior varsity action, the Lady Tornadoes claimed the win as they won both sets 25-23.

Against Neodesha, the Lady Tornadoes fell 10-25 and 19-25. Eureka tallied 2 aces, 6 kills, 1 solo block, 2 block assists, 3 assists and 19 digs. Eureka was led by Sanchez who had 1 ace and 5 digs and Miller who recorded 1 kill, 1 block assist, 1 assist and 3 digs.

Eureka’s junior varsity also fell to the Bluestreaks, 23-25 and 24-26.

The Lady Tornadoes varsity squad hosted their annual tournament on Saturday.

Eureka will travel to Marion this Saturday, Sept. 20 for their annual tournament, at 9 a.m.
